KISS – Key-p It Simple Sweetheart (the keys to a Key West wedding)

You may remember Alison and Sean from their Love Story Film posted in February (below – if you want to watch it again:). We recently filmed their wedding in Key West Florida! Alison and Sean are from Ithaca New York, so having their wedding so far away seemed like no small feat. But, the key to having a spectacular wedding far from home was to keep it simple.

Key 1 – Keep the guest list to a minimum
Alison and Sean had about 20 guests. They invited only their closest friends and family (some came all the way from Alaska, what friends!). The small guest list allowed the photographer to take keepsake portraits of all the guests for the couple. A small guest list allows the dinner budget to focus on the quality of the food, deserts and spirits (the things guests truly care about:), not the amount.

Key 2 – Keep the decor simple
The color scheme was tropical and fun. Alison let the beautiful scenery of Key West be the décor. They were married and had their reception at the Key West Garden Club and let nature be their florist.

Key 3 – Keep the theme subtle
They were getting married on a topical island, but that didn’t mean their wedding had to be a luau. Alison wore a mermaid style gown with a hint of pink that was perfect for a wedding near the ocean. The bridesmaids also wore dresses with a hint of pink, but they were printed with flowers and butterflies (so perfect!). Sean wore a gray tux accented with the color of coral.

  1. This looks so beautiful! My daughter is currently trying to convince me that a traditional church wedding is not the only way of getting married … This has definitely helped in my coming around to the idea!!
